Fiber chemical modification (FCM) is an emerging field in fiber materials and manufacturing.
While the chemical composition of the fibers themselves has been debated, many of the chemicals involved are well-established, well-studied, and well-understood.
The use of a wide range of materials and chemicals in fiber chemical modalities is an evolving field.
However, it is important to note that it is not yet clear which materials are used in which ways and for what purpose, which is likely to change as we continue to expand the scope of research.
This review is designed to highlight the chemical compositions of materials, the potential chemical applications for which they may be applied, and the potential environmental and health impacts of FCM in general.
